Position Summary: 

Synlogic is seeking a Bioanalytical Scientist who will develop and implement bioanalytical assays to characterize engineered bacterial strains. The ideal candidate will support the metabolic and immunology disease area program teams from discovery through early clinical development. The scientist will also play a key role in discovering translational biomarkers of disease biology and engineered therapeutic strain function in vivo. This role is in our Translational Science group. It represents an opportunity to make a substantial impact on advancing our Synthetic Biotic pipeline. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Represent the bioanalytical function on disease area program teams to advance research projects through key development milestones 
  • Develop and optimize bioanalytical assays for small molecule metabolites and protein/peptide biomarkers in various biological matrices 
  • Define in vivo biomarkers of engineered strain function and/or disease biology using targeted and untargeted metabolomics/proteomics approaches 
  • Routinely generate and analyze data using quantitative LC-MS/MS and immunoassay techniques 
  • Generate data reports, maintain a detailed electronic laboratory notebook, communicate results with other scientists, and provide data presentations 
  • Maintain analytical instrumentation and troubleshoot issues as needed 
  • Expected to spend at least 75% of the time in the laboratory 

Education and Skills Requirements: 

  • PhD in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related field 
  • Experience in small quantitative molecule LC-MS/MS analysis required 
  • Experience operating, troubleshooting, and maintaining LC-MS/MS and related analytical equipment 
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy with an ability to work independently to solve technical problems 
  • Experience with immunoassays, such as ELISA, AlphaLISA, or TR-FRET, preferred 
  • Highly organized with excellent written and oral communication skills   
  • Knowledge of FDA guidance for bioanalytical method qualification a plus
