Position Summary: 

Synlogic is seeking a Head of Bioanalysis (Associate Director/Director level) to manage a team of laboratory scientists and associates within the research group to develop, implement, and qualify bioanalytical assays to support therapeutic development projects across Synlogic’s pipeline. Additional responsibilities, include preparing and reviewing bioanalytical plans, protocols, and reports to meet regulatory requirements and management of routine bioanalytical activities. 

This position offers a unique opportunity to work broadly across Synlogic’s pipeline, spanning all development stages and therapeutic indications. This position will be important in defining a bioanalytical strategy that addresses the current and future needs of Synlogic’s engineered bacterial therapeutic platform. The Head of Bioanalysis will be a valuable contributor to our project teams, with responsibilities that are both scientific and operational in nature. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Head and develop a team of bioanalytical research staff to develop LC-MS/MS, HPLC, and ligand-binding assays and to ensure timely delivery of high-quality bioanalytical data to project teams
  • Develop bioanalytical strategies to meet current and future needs for the characterization of engineered therapeutic bacterial strains and the identification of quantitative biomarkers of disease and of strain activity 
  • Partner with key stakeholders in Research, Process Development and Manufacturing, Clinical, Regulatory, and Project Management functions to manage and resolve scientific, technical, or quality issues and ensure data consistency and quality 
  • Implement and oversee bioanalytical budgets, SOPs, and contracts
  • Author and review high-quality reports to meet requirements for regulatory filings, including INDs and BLAs 
  • Represent the bioanalytical group on research project teams by participating in project meetings, managing timelines for performing bioanalytical work, and presenting bioanalytical results 
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the development and validation of bioanalytical methods at CRO’s in support of clinical trials 
  • Guide bioanalytical method qualification, data processing/reporting, and data quality control 
  • Responsible for anticipating laboratory equipment needs and preventative maintenance of bioanalytical instruments 

Education and Skills Requirements: 

PhD in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related discipline with 6+ years' relevant industry experience 

  • Leadership and excellent people management skills are essential 
  • Proven experience guiding innovative scientific research and development on bioanalytics  
  • Familiarity with relevant scientific literature and community  
  • Solid technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration, and independent thought
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including effective presentation skills 
  • Must have the ability to work in a dynamic, team-oriented environment by participating in and contributing to cross functional teams
  • Experience in preparing bioanalytical sections of regulatory submission documents (e.g., IND, NDA/BLA) is required
  • Deep understanding and experience with bioanalytical technology/methods both for small molecules and proteins 
  • Substantial experience with complex LC-MS/MS assay development, qualification, and validation required
