Laboratory Associate, In Vitro/In Vivo Biology

ABOUT ARTIZAN BIOSCIENCES: Artizan Biosciences is a growth-stage biotechnology company that utilizes a proprietary platform to identify critical microorganisms in our intestinal microbiota that play causative roles in important human diseases.  Using our technology, we define the specific mechanisms by which these organisms promote disease and then develop effective therapeutics to block these pathogenic processes. ABOUT THE POSITION: We are seeking a full-time Research Associate to conduct research in microbe-associated disease mechanisms in animal models. The position entails working with a small and dedicated group of scientists in the fields of microbiology, immunology and microbiome studies in a dynamic team setting. The successful candidate will have relevant educational and practical experience and will actively participate in the laboratory’s important research. In addition to versatility within the laboratory setting, this role requires a high level of self-motivation, responsibility, and an ability to quickly gain new skills. The candidate must be capable of working independently as well as in a team environment.
 
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Conduct experiments in mice using appropriate methodology as defined by approved protocols, under the supervision of a senior team leader
  • Support in vivo experiments assaying microbial community composition, host protein levels, and assist in pre- and post-procedural care
  • Maintain inventory of supplies
  • Maintain proper records and laboratory compliance in accordance with SOPs and safety policies
  • Troubleshoot and complete routine procedures independently and efficiently
 
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Experience handling mice and conducting basic experimental procedures
  • Experience in standard molecular biology procedures, cloning, PCR, gel electrophoresis
  • Excellent research record-keeping practices
  • Ability to work collaboratively with laboratory colleagues on complex experiments
  • Flexibility to learn and adapt to new procedures
  • High motivation with a sense of urgency and responsibility
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor’s degree with practical training in biological sciences or related subject
  • Three years of biomedical research experience (preferably industry) with 2 years working with mice
  • Excellent organizational skils
